A round metal wall plate, a slim upright rod with a turned finial and a tapered fabric-look shade. The bulb is rechargeable and lifts off magnetically, so there is no cable to hide and no electrician to book. Lovely as a pair either side of the bed.

Fix the plate to the wall, fit the light and switch it on. When the battery runs low, lift the bulb off its magnetic mount, charge it and click it back in place. Ideal for rented homes, period walls you would rather not chase, and those spots where there was never a socket to begin with.
Dim it, switch it on and off, and choose the tone of light from the remote without leaving the bed or the sofa. Warm white is the setting we would live with: a soft, low glow that suits panelled bedrooms and reading corners. The bulb can also show a range of colours if you ever want them, though we rather suspect you will not.
One beside a reading chair works beautifully. Two either side of the bed, or flanking a painting or a mirror, is where the Wittenberg really earns its place. With the pair, one remote can run both lights together.
Every dimension is measured by hand, so allow 1 to 3 cm either way. Measure your space before you order.
