Meet the Herning, a low stool with a seat shaped like a saddle.

The seat is solid wood, carved with a shallow dip front to back so it holds you rather than just supporting you. Four legs splay out for stance and a single stretcher ties them together. There is nothing on it that does not do a job.

Where it lives

By the front door for shoes. Beside a bed. Under a dressing table. Pulled up to the end of a dining table when there is one more guest than chairs. It weighs about 7 kg, so it does not skate on a hard floor.

Two finishes

Black reads as a line drawing in a pale room. Walnut brings warmth and shows the grain. Both are the same stool underneath.

The seat is carved with a shallow dip front to back, the shape a saddle takes, which is why it is comfortable for longer than a flat stool.
It is solid wood throughout, not veneer, and it weighs about 7 kg. It does not tip or skate.
Assembly is simple: the legs fix into the seat and the stretcher joins the legs.
Two finishes. Black for a graphic look, walnut for warmth.
