Meet the Wroxham, a ceiling light for rooms where a pendant would be in the way.

It is a short cylinder of travertine capped with solid wood, sitting flush against the ceiling. Twelve centimetres across and ten deep, so it reads as a considered object rather than a fitting. The light comes down through the open underside and picks up the warm tone of the stone on its way out, which is what stops it looking like a downlight.

Travertine is a stone full of small open pores, and those pores are visible from below. Every piece is cut from a different part of the block, so the pattern of pitting and the depth of the cream tone change from one to the next.

Low ceilings and busy doorways

Hallways, landings, porches, box rooms, anywhere under about 2.4m or anywhere a hanging shade would be caught by a door. The log wood finish disappears into a white ceiling. The walnut makes the fitting the thing you notice.

About the name. Wroxham is a village on the Norfolk Broads, the kind of English place every Dusk Oak piece takes its name from.
