Meet the Melford, a ceiling light shaped like something that grew.
The shade is a shallow dish of green tinted glass with a scalloped edge, the petals radiating out from a small brass centre. It sits close to the ceiling rather than hanging, so it belongs in the rooms where a pendant would be in the way, and it throws light both down through the glass and up onto the ceiling around it. That upward wash is what makes a low room feel taller.
Green glass is an unusual choice and it should be. Most ceiling lights are chosen to be ignored. This one is chosen because someone will look up.
Hallways, landings and the small room
Entrance halls, a landing at the top of the stairs, a cloakroom, a box room. Anywhere the ceiling is under about 2.4m and a hanging shade would be caught by a door or a head.
Green, against what
It sits beautifully against warm plaster, oak and brass. Against a cool white ceiling it reads as a deliberate accent rather than a match, which is the point of it. If you want the fitting to disappear, this is the wrong product.

Will the Melford suit a low ceiling?
Yes. It mounts semi flush rather than hanging, so it is made for hallways, landings, cloakrooms and any room under about 2.4m.
Does it come with a bulb?
No. It takes a screw fitting bulb, so you choose the warmth. A warm white shows the green glass at its best.
Is the green a subtle tint or a strong colour?
It reads as a deliberate accent, not a neutral. Against warm plaster, oak and brass it sits beautifully. Against a cool white ceiling it stands out, which is the point of it.
