Meet the Quenby, a pendant that changes the colour of the room it is in.
The shade is amber tinted glass, ribbed in fine vertical lines all the way round. Those ribs are not decoration. They catch the light from inside and throw it outward in narrow bands, so instead of one flat glow you get a warm pattern that moves across the ceiling and the wall behind it. Switch it on at dusk and the whole corner turns the colour of weak tea.
Unlit, in daylight, it reads as a piece of coloured glass rather than a light fitting. That is the difference between a pendant you tolerate and one you would put somewhere people look.
Over a counter, or beside a chair
A kitchen island, a breakfast bar, one end of a run of worktop, or low over a side table in a reading corner. The drop is adjustable up to 150cm, so it works over a counter at 70cm and from a high ceiling at full length.
Amber, and what it does
Amber glass warms everything under it. Against oak, walnut and brass it disappears into the palette. Against cool greys and chrome it fights, so it is worth knowing which room you are buying for before you order.

Does the Quenby come with a bulb?
No. It takes a screw fitting bulb to a maximum of 60W, so you choose the warmth. A warm filament bulb shows the ribbing at its best.
How low does it hang?
The drop is adjustable up to 150cm, so it works low over a counter at about 70cm or at full length from a high ceiling.
Will the amber suit my kitchen?
Against oak, walnut and brass it disappears into the palette. Against cool greys and chrome it reads as a clash, so it is worth picturing the room first.
