Meet the Rothwell, a pendant that looks like it was found rather than made.
The shade is a single asymmetric dome in a matt cream plaster finish, forty centimetres across, folded softly on one side like a stone worn smooth by water. There is no symmetry to it and no repeated detail, which is the whole idea. Wabi sabi is the Japanese habit of finding the beauty in what is irregular and unfinished, and this is one of the few lights that actually earns the label rather than borrowing it.
The underside is open and scooped, so the light pours down and out rather than straight through. Above a table it puts a warm pool on the surface and leaves the sculpted top in shadow, which is when the shape reads best.
Over a long table, in a group
One of these is a light. Two or three hung at staggered heights over a dining table is the thing people photograph. The drop is 150cm and adjustable, so you can set the heights apart deliberately rather than lining them up.
Matt, and why that matters
A gloss finish would make this look like moulded plastic. The matt plaster surface absorbs light instead of bouncing it, which is what gives the shade its weight and stops it reading as cheap. It also means it sits comfortably against lime plaster, old brick and bare wood rather than fighting them.
