Meet the Tetbury, an incense burner shaped like a stone.
It is a sphere of creamy travertine, 10.5cm across, cut in two around its middle. The lower half is a bowl. The upper half is a domed lid with a ring of small holes drilled through it. Light a cone or a piece of palo santo in the bowl, set the lid back on, and the smoke rises out of the top in a slow, thin thread.
Travertine is full of small open pores, and here they are left visible rather than filled. Each sphere is turned from a different part of the block, so the pitting and the depth of the cream tone shift from one to the next.
Lit or unlit
Most incense holders look like incense holders. This one looks like a stone sphere with a fine seam, so it stays out on a shelf, a windowsill or a bedside between uses. The bowl on its own is a small dish for rings, matches or a tea light.
Slow smoke, heavy stone
The lid slows the burn and softens the smoke into a steady thread rather than a plume. It belongs with the Inglecote wall light and the Wroxham ceiling light in the same travertine, and with anything in pale oak or lime plaster.

What can I burn in it?
Incense cones, backflow cones, a piece of palo santo, or resin on a charcoal disc. Sticks do not fit under the lid, so use it with the lid off for those. Incense is not included.
Does it get hot?
The stone warms but the base stays cool enough for a wooden shelf. Let it cool before you lift the lid, and empty ash only once it has gone cold.
Will mine look like the photos?
Close, but not identical. Each sphere is turned from a different part of the block, so the pores and the cream tone vary. That is the nature of travertine.
How much is delivery?
