Meet the Inglecote, a wall light cut from stone.
The shade is a half dome of creamy travertine, flat against the wall and open along its top edge. Light leaves through that opening and washes up the wall above it, so what you see is not a lamp but a soft band of warm light with the stone glowing underneath. Turn it off and it reads as a piece of carved stone that happens to be mounted at head height.
Travertine is full of small open pores, and here they are left visible rather than filled. Each piece is cut from a different part of the block, so the pattern of pitting and the depth of the cream tone shift from one to the next.
Narrow halls and the space beside a bed
It stands just 5cm off the wall, so it works in a corridor where anything deeper would catch a shoulder. Either side of a bed it gives you reading light without a bedside table, and up a staircase at even spacing it turns a dark run of wall into something worth looking at.
Stone, and what it does to light
The warm cream of travertine tints the light passing across it, which is why the wash reads softer than the same bulb in a white fitting. It sits naturally against lime plaster, oak and brass, and it belongs to the same family as the Wroxham and the Tilbury.

How far does the Inglecote stick out from the wall?
Just 5cm, which is why it works in a narrow hallway or beside a bed where a deeper fitting would be in the way.
Which way does the light go?
Mostly up. The shade is open along its top edge, so it washes the wall above it and gives a soft glow rather than a bright point at eye level.
Will two of them look the same?
Close, but not identical. Travertine is cut from a natural block, so the pattern of open pores and the depth of the cream tone differ on every piece.
